A Caregiver, a Student and a Parent: Amenthiri Dons Many Hats

Amenthiri (NALAM Mobiliser)
Amenthiri, a Computer Science graduate, spent over a decade being silenced by family restrictions and burdened by emotional distress. After three suicide attempts, her younger sister encouraged her to join the BALM diploma course—an experience that changed everything.

From the very first class, she began rediscovering her self-worth. Despite attending all 25 sessions under immense pressure and criticism, she found strength, new skills and a supportive community. Her children even joined her in class and their teachers praised their growth, proving just how healing radiates outward.

Her research on housewives’ struggles led her to speak at a Women’s Day conference—a moment of pride she never imagined.

Now, with 1.5 years of fieldwork behind her, Amenthiri is a trusted NALAM Mobiliser. She identifies people in need, runs support groups, educates communities and champions mental health in even the most resource-poor villages—proof that transformation is always possible, no matter where you begin.
