Leading with Care: How a Ratheesh Is Expanding Community Mental Health Access
Ratheesh started his career in a corporate hospital’s psychiatry unit, but it was at The Banyan that he truly understood the deep gaps in care for homeless persons with mental illness.
He became closely involved in rescues and reintegration, helping many individuals return to their communities after long-term institutionalisation.
“This work changed me,” he says. After earning his M.Phil. in Psychiatric Social Work, he founded the Menadora Foundation, inspired by The Banyan’s model. Today, he leads three key initiatives:
- ECRC Sholavaram (30-bed inpatient facility)
- ECRC Tiruvallur (20-bed inpatient facility)
- Home Again Villupuram (6 houses, 30 residents)
Together, these programmes offer a full spectrum of community-based support to people recovering from mental health issues across multiple districts in Tamil Nadu.
